who is your client?
My couples want someone that puts them at ease, feels like a friend, and can capture all the magical vibes + feels of their wedding day. They want a photographer they can wholeheartedly trust to get creative and create non-cookie cutter photos because they like to do-away with the traditional "rules" of a wedding. And they usually enjoy good cocktails, wine, pups, and being all-around great humans.
How did you get started in photography?
In 2013, I purchased my first camera. I knew nothing about the technical side of photography, but quickly fell head-first into learning about light + the art of composing a great image. And when I find a hobby I enjoy, I become quite obsessed with it! Later that year, my husband and I backpacked through Switzerland for a week which gave me the opportunity to photograph everything we saw for seven days straight. Getting to shoot so much in such a condensed amount of time completely reinforced my love for the art and solidified my desire to create a career with it. I photographed my first wedding in 2014 and was enamored with it. It blew me away that I got to document one of the best days of someone's life the way I saw it unfold, not exactly the way the industry "dictated". My business grew quickly and in February 2015, I left my career in the wine industry to become a photographer full-time. The name "Plum & Oak" came from fusing one of my favorite traits in red wine (notes of plum), with one of my favorite traits of California - our beautiful + massive mesa oaks.
what type of equipment do you use?
I shoot on a Canon 5D Mark IV and a bunch of Canon L series lenses, but my favorite lenses are my 35m and 50mm. Can't get enough of them.
do you travel?
Yes! Just let us know where and we can provide a quote. Our passports are ready.
can you recommend an awesome videographer, florist, makeup artist, etc.?
Absolutely! I've been fortunate to work with some incredible people and only recommend vendors that are crazy talented + and overall lovely people. Just ask!
we get a bit nervous in front of the camera. do you provide any direction when shooting?
Oh, gosh yes! I'm the queen of direction, despite my photos feeling candid. I know first-hand how awkward it can feel to be photographed. When I'm shooting, I actually put the majority of my energy into making my couples comfortable. My couples aren't models, despite being ridiculously amazing. The majority of the couples you see in my work have voiced something along the lines of being awkward photo-takers, but if their photos are any indicator, it's proof that I've got you covered. It's a unique experience and probably quite different from what you'd imagine. The bottom line?: Girl, I've got you. I'll make you feel amazing.
do you offer family sessions?
I currently focus on wedding, commercial, and editorial photography, but am happy to recommend some incredible photographers that do provide family photography!
